Assemblyman Colton Seeks Summer Interns for His District Office

With the summer school vacation right around the corner, Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) is looking for high school and college students who are interested in learning about the inner workings of government to volunteer as interns in his district office.

Applicants for the non-paid positions should be at least 14 years old. Those who are accepted for the opportunity will work out of Assemblyman Colton’s district office at 155 Kings Highway.

“Every year, I look forward to the opportunity to introduce our community’s bright students to how government actually operates,” said Assemblyman Colton. “Those who take the positions learn so much about the day-to-day activities in an Assembly office, and get a broad perspective on what government can do to make constituents’ lives easier and better. Over the course of the internship, my staff and I involve the students volunteering with us in a variety of neighborhood projects, as well as providing networking opportunities and introducing them to community leaders who can provide unique perspectives on the challenges faced by local residents. It’s always a joy to work with these talented young people, who get a hands-on civic education over the course of their internship. And, I am always delighted when students who started as interns decide to pursue public service as their careers.”

Work schedules are flexible, based on students’ availability.

Students interested in applying should call Assemblyman Colton’s co-Chief of Staff Sarah at 718-236-1598 or stop into the office during office hours: Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday, noon to 8 p.m.; and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
