Children’s Book Giveaways Resume at Assemblyman Colton’s Office

The books are back! Now that the weather has warmed up, Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) has restarted children’s book giveaways outside his office on Friday afternoons.

The book distributions will take place every Friday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. outside 155 Kings Highway, with many books available for children of all ages.

“We are delighted to start up the book distribution program once again,” said Assemblyman Colton. “Councilmember Susan Zhuang and I began it last fall, after an extensive book drive to collect books that would help reinforce children’s love of reading, because we believe it is essential that children master this basic skill, which not only opens them up to a lifetime of enjoyment but is crucial to their advancement throughout school, and in their chosen careers. Books have so much to offer kids, from the youngest eagerly exploring their board books to teens, for whom they are a gateway to the future. I look forward to meeting our neighborhood’s enthusiastic readers and their caregivers, so please stop by.”

The book drive kicked off last September during an event in Seth Low Park, and continued as area residents and businesspeople contributed throughout the fall. Community partners for the drive included ABC (the Association of Bensonhurst Commerce), CASS (Chinese American Social Services), the Committee of 100, COPO (Council of Peoples Organization), FIAO (the Federation of Italian American Organizations), Homecrest Community Services (HCS), Iqra Masjid, the JCH (Jewish Community House of Bensonhurst), Sharing Hearts, UA3, the United Chinese Association of Brooklyn (UCA) and the Zhanjiang Association of America.
