Assemblymember Shrestha Comments on Central Hudson’s New Rate Case Filing

“On the day Central Hudson’s new rates went into effect, the company filed for further increases on both electricity and gas. This shows that the corporate monopoly has no interest in evaluating the outcomes made possible by the last rate case before making decisions that will drive rates higher. My office will once again be joining the rate case as an intervening party on behalf of my district to evaluate the company’s proposals, request pertinent data, and argue against plans we find to be unwise. In the meantime, our constituents are tired of time-consuming and costly rate cases that are unlikely to fully address the conflict between shareholder profits and the public’s well-being, which is why we’ve introduced a bill to replace Central Hudson with a publicly-owned Hudson Valley Power Authority – a State public benefit corporation that would continue to be operated by current Central Hudson workers, but with different goals: low rates, reliable service, correct and easy to understand bills, clean energy, and community benefits.”
