“We as a nation are not only mourning the loss of Freddie Gray but all of the communities that have been polarized by the senseless violence against unarmed civilians of color, said Assemblyman Ramos (D-Brentwood) “This most recent tragedy in Baltimore is a reminder of the deeply rooted structural racial inequities in our society and the need for comprehensive criminal justice reform that seeks to correct the institutional problems of abuse, neglect, racial profiling and violence. As a former law enforcement officer, I understand that the police can be a part of the solution and that best way to honor the memory of those we lost is by doing everything possible to prevent tragedies from reoccurring across our country.”
Assemblyman Ramos at the New York Police Officer Memorial Ceremony on May 5th acknowledging the contributions of officers that have lost their lives in their line of duty.
“We as a nation thrive because of the exemplary bravery and heroism from police officers who put their lives at risk every day to ensure that our freedom is preserved and country is protected from all threats of danger,” said Assemblyman Ramos (D-Brentwood). “As a former law enforcement officer, words simply cannot describe the deep sense of sorrow we feel when one of fellow officers makes the ultimate sacrifice of giving up their lives in the line of duty. Deputy Majority Leader, Assemblyman Phil Ramos kicked-off the 28th Somos El Futuro Conference by welcoming seniors from his Long Island district in Suffolk County to a seniors luncheon in Albany. "I am happy to kick-off this year's conference and spend the afternoon with seniors from my district and to celebrate them because they are the ones who built our communities and whose shoulders we stand on. Their struggles and accomplishments are why us Latinos have so many doors open for us today," said Assemblyman Ramos.
Assemblyman Phil Ramos, chair of the PRHYLI, welcomed Latino youth from across the state who were participating in a weekend-long conference in Albany in which they learned about state government and the legislative process. Throughout the weekend students had the chance to engage in a mock session, meet legislative leaders and enjoy an awards ceremony where scholarships were awarded.
Assemblyman Phil Ramos was proud to present several awards during the 2015 Somos El Futuro conference. Among the recipients were: Roger de los Santos, Education Champion of the Year Award; Bergre Escorbores, Higher Education Advocate of the Year Award; Julissa Ramos, and Award for Exemplary Community Service.
