Assembly Member Kay’s Statement on Workforce Housing Development Coming to Sullivan County
Monticello, NY – Today, Kenneth Kearney of Kearney Realty & Development Group signed the contract of sale with Resorts World Catskills (a subsidiary of Empire Resorts, a member of the Genting Group) that is required for the development of over 100 workforce housing units on property located along County Route 17B at the Monticello Race Track. The contract for this project was officially signed at Assembly Member Kay’s third Workforce Housing Roundtable hosted at Resorts World Catskills and is a direct result of the collaborative conversations held during Assembly Member Kay’s prior two Workforce Housing Roundtables.
Assembly Member Kay said, “This project is going to play a crucial role in the future of economic development in Sullivan County. Investing in workforce housing is investing in Sullivan County residents and this investment will be vital for young professionals looking to establish their roots here and for the businesses who rely on them. I want to thank every stake holder who showed up to our roundtables over the last year with an enthusiasm to find solutions, this announcement wouldn’t be possible without your determination and collaboration. I’d also like to thank the leadership at Resorts World Catskills and Mr. Kearney for recognizing Sullivan County’s potential and putting in the work to bring this dream project to fruition. With these new units, Sullivan County will continue to build up our housing inventory, drive down the cost of living and support hundreds of jobs. And this is just the start. Together, we will continue building up Sullivan County and the entire 100th Assembly District and creating a destination for all New Yorkers to come and plant their roots.”
Robert DeSalvio, President of Genting America's East said, “Housing has become the number one issue facing communities across New York State, and it is a challenge we see up close at all three of our Resorts World properties in Catskills, Hudson Valley, and New York City. There has never been a greater need – particularly for the people who power our operations and our local economies – for a place to call home. We are proud to be part of the solution here in Sullivan County and hope this project serves as a model for what is possible when the private sector steps up alongside local leaders to meet this moment."
Meghan Taylor, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Relations for Genting Americas Inc. said, "Resorts World's commitment to this region goes well beyond our property line. We are part of the fabric of Sullivan County, and that means showing up for the issues that matter most to the people who live and work here. Supporting this workforce housing development is a natural extension of who we are as a community partner, and we look forward to continuing to invest in the long-term vitality of the Catskills for years to come."
Kenneth Kearney, founder of Kearney Realty & Development Group said, “We are thrilled to make this project official with the signing of the contract of sale today. This milestone would not have been possible without the steadfast commitment of Assembly Member Kay and Resorts World Catskills to Sullivan County. We are proud to play a role in bringing this transformative project to life and helping strengthen Sullivan County’s economic future.
Nadia Rajsz, Chair of the Sullivan County Legislature said, “This is a historic investment for Sullivan County. The need for this type of housing is present in every part of Sullivan County, and I am proud to be able to tell the business owners and Sullivan County residents that this is getting done. This would not have been possible without the vision of Assembly Member Kay and the work her staff put in putting together her Workforce Housing Roundtables this past year, so I’d like to express my sincere thanks to Assembly Member Kay, all of the representatives who took part in those valuable discussions, the Resorts World Catskill team, and Kenneth Kearney for believing in Sullivan County and making this possible.”
