Simpson Raises Concerns Over State’s Priorities

Comments on Gov. Hochul’s Sex Worker Health Pilot Program

On Tuesday, Assemblyman Matt Simpson (R,C-Horicon) expressed his concerns about the governor's latest program to give free health care to prostitutes. The Sex Worker Health Pilot Program will pull $1 million in public funds from the stateDepartment of Health over the course of the next two years to support dental visits, annual physicals, and therapy sessions for sex workers.

“Health care costs are ballooning for middle-class families, yet Albany routinely allows health insurance companies to raise rates by double digits annually. It is hypocritical that in the face of the largest population exodus any state is facing, we are giving millions in free health care to sex workers instead of helping law-abiding families shoulder the burden of basic health care costs. Furthermore, the legalization and encouragement of sex work and prostitution could potentially lead to an increase in human trafficking and the exploitation of women and children. Programs like this will surely create a larger market for what is a seedy, crime-ridden industry,” said Simpson.
