Assemblywoman Griffin: The DEC and Other Key Agencies Must Clean Up the Grumman Plume

“It’s incredulous that Grumman was aware that its toxic chemicals were contaminating local groundwater and chose to cover this up rather than to initiate a clean-up to protect the water residents were drinking. After decades of secrecy, now we have a massive toxic plume on an aquifer which is the sole source of drinking water for this region of Long Island. Even more devastating is that this plume continues to grow at an alarming rate which threatens the Great South Bay and will contaminate our estuaries threatening the health of even more Long Islanders. The DEC and other key agencies must do everything in its power to clean up this plume and ensure the safety of drinking water across Long Island. This is well past an emergency”
