Assemblywoman Judy Griffin (D-Rockville Centre) announced that the state Education Department has released over $700,000 in construction funding, which was included in the 2018-19 state budget, for local libraries.
Libraries are an important, vibrant and supportive resource at the center of our communities, said Griffin. I was proud to secure this funding so that our libraries will continue inspiring young minds and supporting residents of all ages.
The funding includes $227,000 for the Baldwin Public Library for door and window replacement; $226,999 for the Freeport Memorial Library for exterior renovations and to install ADA-compliant ramps; $178,019 for the Rockville Centre Public Library to replace the roof and install soundproof glass; $65,748 for the West Hempstead Public Library to install LED lighting; and $5,627 for the Malverne Public Library for interior renovations. To further support these vital community centers, Griffin helped pass the 2019-20 state budget which includes $96.6 million for libraries statewide.
