Assemblywoman Griffin Announces Funding for Local Libraries

Assemblywoman Judy Griffin (D-Rockville Centre) announced that the state Education Department has released over $700,000 in construction funding, which was included in the 2018-19 state budget, for local libraries.

“Libraries are an important, vibrant and supportive resource at the center of our communities,” said Griffin. “I was proud to secure this funding so that our libraries will continue inspiring young minds and supporting residents of all ages.”

The funding includes $227,000 for the Baldwin Public Library for door and window replacement; $226,999 for the Freeport Memorial Library for exterior renovations and to install ADA-compliant ramps; $178,019 for the Rockville Centre Public Library to replace the roof and install soundproof glass; $65,748 for the West Hempstead Public Library to install LED lighting; and $5,627 for the Malverne Public Library for interior renovations. To further support these vital community centers, Griffin helped pass the 2019-20 state budget which includes $96.6 million for libraries statewide.
