Tague Demands Cuomo Allow Schools to Move Forward with In-Person Instruction in 2020-2021 School Year

Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I,Ref-Schoharie) signed a letter along with his Republican colleagues in the Assembly to demand the governor allow in-person instruction to resume in schools this fall using guidelines endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Tague believes that a complete education necessitates in-person instruction and that the governor must do all he can to put students in physical classrooms with in-person instruction.

“An education that’s solely academic is not a complete education,” said Tague. “Our education system is meant to turn our young people into well-rounded American citizens, and the social skills students gain as they interact with their peers and teachers are a critical part of a young person’s development. We also need to bear in mind that not every student is going to have a peaceful and safe learning environment when their home is their classroom, and for many students, schools are places where they can be safe and given nutritious food. Schools are about more than just preparing for tests, they’re where young people prepare to become productive members of our society, and online-only instruction is not sufficient to prepare our young people fully for their futures.”
