Tague, Walczyk Introduce Bill to Combat Political Suppression

Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C-Schoharie) has partnered with Sen. Mark Walczyk (R,C-49th Senate District) to introduce a measure in the New York State Assembly and State Senate that would classify “suppression or promotion of a political ideology” as criminal mischief in the third degree when property is damaged.

This move comes after a sprawling number of violent incidents have taken place nationwide in which Tesla car owners, dealerships and charging stations have been vandalized, with many of these attacks being attributed to the role Elon Musk has in the federal government. Tague and Walczyk are preparing to prevent such violence from continuing in New York state.

“Our country is known for its difference—in ideology, in religion, in culture. That’s what makes us a melting pot. But we never meet that difference with violence, and that’s what we need to correct,” Tague said.

“Violence as a tool of protest, especially at the expense of everyday consumers or employees without decision-making power, is unacceptable. I’m proud to partner with Sen. Walczyk on this important issue and fight for common-sense legislation in New York,” Tague concluded.
