Assemblyman Santabarbara Leads Dual "Arrive Alive" Prom Pledge Events in Amsterdam and Schenectady

Hundreds of high school seniors to publicly commit to safe, sober driving during prom season

With prom season in full swing, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara is bringing his impactful "Arrive Alive" Prom Pledge initiative to Amsterdam High School and Schenectady High School on the same day, urging hundreds of seniors to prioritize safety over risk and responsibility over peer pressure.

At each event, students will gather to sign the "Arrive Alive" Pledge, a formal, public commitment that includes:

  • A promise not to drink and drive
  • A promise not to get in a car with someone who has been drinking
  • A promise to call a trusted adult or loved one for help – no matter the situation

Parents and guardians are also encouraged to sign a companion pledge, committing to always provide a safe ride home, no questions asked, if their child ever calls for help.

These dual pledges open the door for honest conversations between teens and parents and are designed to prevent tragedy during a time that should be about joy, celebration, and milestone memories.

According to the CDC, 1 in 5 teen drivers in fatal crashes had alcohol in their system, and those ages 16-20 are 17 times more likely to die in a crash when impaired. With prom and graduation season here, this initiative is a timely, emotional reminder of what’s at stake – and what we can all do to prevent tragedy.
