Brook-Krasny Attends Press Conference to Demand Changes to Bail Reform, Sanctuary Policies
Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny (R,C–Bay Ridge, Coney Island) joined a press conference today calling for immediate changes to New York’s bail laws and the Protect Our Courts Act.
Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny (R,C–Bay Ridge, Coney Island) joined a press conference today calling for immediate changes to New York’s bail laws and the Protect Our Courts Act.
The push comes in response to a March 11, 2026, incident in Suffolk County, where three Salvadoran nationals in the country illegally were found in possession of gasoline-filled Molotov cocktails.
Despite the severity of the charges, the individuals were released without bail and could not be taken into custody by federal agents due to restrictions under the Protect Our Courts Act. Brook-Krasny said the case reflects a broader pattern of policies putting communities at risk and emphasized the need for common-sense reforms, including “Laken’s Law,” to hold offenders accountable and strengthen public safety across New York.
“Albany Majority lawmakers bail reform and sanctuary state policies are once again putting criminals ahead of victims,” said Brook-Krasny. “For years, my colleagues and I have raised concerns about these so-called reforms, yet Majority continues to ignore the warning signs. It should not take repeated tragedies for Albany to recognize that these policies are making our communities less safe. It is time to put aside the politics and focus on common-sense solutions that prioritize public safety.”
