TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to increasing the cap on earnings for eligible individuals with no dependents receiving tuition assistance program awards   PURPOSE: Relates to increasing the cap to $30,000 on earnings for eligible indi- viduals with no dependents receiving TAP awards.   SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one amends § 667 of the education law, to increase the earnings cap associated with TAP eligibility for single, independent undergradu- ate students to $30,000 per year. Section two provides the effective date.   JUSTIFICATION: The current max earning for a single, independent undergraduate student with no tax dependents receiving TAP awards is currently $10,000 accord- ing to Education Law Section 667 (3)(a) (iii)(A). A young adult who no longer lives with his/her parents that earns $15,000 annually, for instance, does not qualify for TAP despite being, by virtually all meas- ures, in need of financial assistance to attend college.
