				On the state level...
				
				
				
				New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation
				
				
				The NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) is 
				accepting grant applications for the Park Development and Planning Program, 
				Historic Preservation and Planning Program, and Heritage Areas System Development 
				and Planning Program. Funding will improve, protect, rehabilitate or restore lands, 
				waters or structures for parks, structures in approved management plans for Heritage 
				Areas, and properties listed on the State or National Registry of Historic Places.

								Eligibility: 
								Municipalities, State agencies, public benefit corporations, public authorities, 
								and not-for-profit corporations with an ownership interest in the property.
								
							 				
							- 
								
	
								Funding: Between $12,000 and $400,000. If funds are used 
								as a matching grant, assistance toward the cost of projects shall not exceed 
								50% of the approved project cost.

				New York State Homes & Community Renewal
				
				
				The NYS Homes & Community Renewal is accepting grant applications 
				for its Homes for Working Families Program. Funding will provide gap financing 
				through low interest loans for capital costs, related acquisition, and soft costs 
				associated with the new construction or rehabilitation of affordable housing. 
				Priority will be given to applications that leverage other sources of capital subsidy 
				and advance one of the State’s housing goals including: affordable housing 
				preservation, transit oriented development, supportive housing, and housing 
				opportunity projects.
				
				
				
					- 
						
						Eligibility:  Projects must meet the statutory provisions 
						of the Low Income Housing Trust Fund Program. Funds may only be used 
						to assist the development of residential units affordable to households with 
						incomes 60% or less of Area Median Income. More than 50% of total project 
						cost must be financed by tax-exempt bonds.

						Funding: The maximum award per project is $2,500,000, 
						with an award of $45,000 per unit for New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, 
						Westchester and Rockland Counties and $35,000 per unit for the rest of the

	On the federal level...
	
	
	National Endowment for the Humanities
	
	
	The National Endowment for the Humanities is providing grants for fellowship 
	programs to support advanced study and research in the humanities. Fellowship 
	programs may be administered by independent centers for advanced study, libraries, 
	and museums in the United States, American overseas research centers and American 
	organizations that have expertise in promoting research on foreign cultures. Individuals 
	who are interested in fellowships must apply directly to institutions that run their own 
	fellowship programs.
	
	
		
			- 
				
				Eligibility:  Any United States non-profit institution with IRS 
				501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, state and local government agencies, and federally 
				recognized Native American tribal governments. In addition, the institution must 
				be financed, governed, and administered independently of higher education 
				institutions and have established and maintained fellowship programs with their 
				own or other funding
				
			 
			- 
				
				Funding: Awards are generally made to support fellowships 
				for three years. The grants support two types of substantial expenses: 
				fellowship stipends ($4,200/month) and costs for selecting fellows (up to $9,000 
				per year for travel, accommodations and honoraria for members of an external 
				selection committee). A grantee institution may supplement the stipends of 
				National Endowment for the Humanities fellows from its own funds.

	MAXIMUS Charitable Foundation
	
	
	The MAXIMUS Charitable Foundation is committed to creating opportunities for young 
	people through youth-oriented programs. The foundation will award cash grants to eligible 
	organizations and charities that help disadvantaged individuals achieve self-sufficiency 
	and personal growth.
	
	
		
			- 
				
				Eligibility:  Documented 501(c)(3) organizations that are committed 
				to creating opportunities for young people through youth-oriented programs. Audited 
				financial statements are required. Grants are not generally awarded to individuals; 
				advertising, ticket events, or dinner programs; political causes or candidates; 
				endowments or capital campaigns.

				Funding: Grant amounts range from $1,000 to $5,000.
				
			 				
			-

	ASCAP Foundation
	
	
	The ASCAP Foundation is dedicated to supporting American music creators and 
	encouraging their growth through music education and talent development programs. 
	The foundation is accepting letters of intent from non-profit organizations that promote 
	songwriting workshops, scholarships, and music education programs. Applicants will 
	hear within one month of receipt of their letter of intent whether or not their organization 
	will be invited to submit a grant application.
	
	
		
			- 
				
				Eligibility:  Non-profit organizations classified as 501(c)(3) that 
				are involved with music programs.
				
			 
			- 
				
				Funding: Grants are made on an annual one-time basis. Average 
				grant is between $1,500 and $3,000.
				
			 				
			- 
				
				Deadline: Letter of intent due August 1, 2011. Grant application 
				due October 1, 2011.
				
			 																
		
	 
	
	
	
	Foundation for Physical Therapy
	
	
	The Foundation for Physical Therapy funds research that supports the development 
	of evidence-based physical therapist practice, enhances the quality of physical 
	therapist services for patients and clients, and increases the number of physical 
	therapist researchers. The Foundation’s Magistro Family Foundation Endowment 
	Fund will award research grants for projects that develop innovative physical therapist 
	interventions or evaluate the effectiveness of existing interventions. Preferred consideration 
	will be given to studies that examine both the therapeutic effectiveness and cost 
	effectiveness of interventions.

				Eligibility: Physical therapists or physical therapist assistants 
				who have had some previous research experience and have completed graduate, 
				post-graduate, or post-professional work, but have not yet been awarded a federal 
				R01 grant; physical therapists or physical therapist assistants beginning in a new 
				field of research or making strategic changes in research direction within an existing 
				line of research.  Projects to be completed in fulfillment of requirements for an academic 
				degree are not eligible.

	The Foundation Center has scheduled the following free training classes in 
	New York City during August 2011:
	
	
	Grantseeking Basics: August 11, 31
 
	Attendees will learn how the center’s resources can help make them more effective grantseekers. 
	For beginners, this introduction to the library provides instruction in foundation research and 
	identification of potential funders. A tour of the library will follow.
	
	
	Proposal Writing Basics: August 3
	Attendees will learn about the basics of writing a proposal for their non-profit organizations.
	
	
	Introduction to Finding Funders: August 11, 24, 31
	This class provides a hands-on introduction on how to use the center’s comprehensive online 
	database – the Foundation Directory Online – to research and identify potential funders. The 
	Foundation Directory Online contains over 100,000 profiles of grantmaking institutions.
	
	
	
	How to Approach a Foundation: August 16
	Attendees will learn how to initiate contact with potential donors, plan calls and meetings, and 
	build partnerships with sponsors. This class is intended for fundraisers who have some experience 
	but are not experts.
